Conveyancing FAQ – everything you have always wanted to know (well, maybe questioned) about conveyancing

 

1.     What is conveyancing?

This might be the very first question that crosses your mind, and to put it in simple terms, conveyancing is the process of transferring ownership of property or land from one person to another.

 

2.     Why would I require this process if I am looking to move houses?    

 You will need this if you wish to transfer one property to another by means of a legally binding contract. This would ensure the process is done correctly and that there are no loopholes or faults in the process.

 

3.     What are disbursements?

Disbursements involves the actual delivery of funds from a bank account or other source of funds that are paid on your behalf, this may include money paid for expenses for example.

 

4.     is the conveyance process expensive?

If you are selling your property you would need to plan for the legal fees and agency fees involved.

 

5.     How long does the conveyancing process usually take?

Some processes may take longer, and others may be shorter, this depends on whether you have provided everything that is required and also taking other factors into consideration which can either delay or speed up the process.  

 

6.     Will I be notified when the contracts have been exchanged?

Yes, you will be notified of course, but most times it is not necessary for you to be present for this process.

 

7.     Can I move whenever I want to?

It is advisable that you wait until after the contracts have been exchanged between the solicitors.

 

8.     Will you help me find a solicitor that can assist with this process?

9.     What is a survey?

A survey is the process where you will be provided more in-depth information about the property, problems that you should be aware of would be highlighted in a survey.
